Begin With The End for An Incredible Journey
With a "driving question" to guide their work, and with "desired outcomes"
established right up front, students at Marin School of Arts & Technology
(MSAT) in Novato, California, collaborate in exploring topics such as their
local watershed area.  Results are incorporated into their television
broadcast news simulations and a public exhibition. Teachers at this new
school learn to reach outside their specific subject areas to lead students
through thoughtfully structured integrated projects while developing their
personal and academic skills. Read on! 1. Begin With The End: Marin School

of Arts & Technology In this new high school where projects are at the heart

of teaching and learning, interconnected systems of students, teachers and

watersheds develop. MSAT students and teachers connect information derived

from collecting and studying data about the local watershed with skills developed

within their classrooms.  They analyze and synthesize data and transform their

findings into scripts, slide shows, scale models of the watershed area, and live

presentations to community members about their comparisons and conclusions.
