To create a PowerPoint with Pictures and Sound

Open PowerPoint

Start a new presentation (a blank slide works well)

Go Insert – Picture – Clipart

In this window, Click the “Clips Online” button to open the Microsoft Clipart Window – this is Microsoft’s website for clipart, sounds, etc.  It may also be found at this site (Bookmark it in Favorites:  http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us

This next step will insert a Picture

Pull down the Search Menu to choose “Picture”.  Type in the subject / content of the picture you are looking for.  In this sample, I typed, “Bird”.  Then click “Go”

All of the pictures that are related to “bird” will appear.  Right Click on the photo to insert, and select “copy”.

Then go back to the PowerPoint Presentation and “paste” from the edit menu or right click and select “paste”.

To add a Sound Clip to the picture, go back to the Microsoft clipart gallery

http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us

In the Search, select “Sound” and Type “Parrot” as the type of sound to search for.  Click “Go”.

Find the Sound you are looking for, right click, and Copy. (Example is on the left)

Go back to the PowerPoint slide.

Be sure the Picture is highlighted (the boxes around the picture will have editing boxes to adjust the size when the photo is highlighted like the parrot picture above).

Right click and “Paste” the sound to the photo.  You can also paste from the Edit-Paste on the menu.

To be sure the sound attached to the picture, go to Slide Show and pull down to “View Show” or use F5 if you like keyboarding shortcuts.

To make the sound clip play, you must click on the picture to activate the sound clip.

To make more slides, go back to the Insert Menu.  Select “new slide”, and start the process over.  Be sure to save your work – I recommend clicking “save” after each successful slide is completed just to be extra careful.  J

Important Notes:

·        In order to use the “Clips Online” feature, you must be connected to the Internet.

·         If you do not have rights to install software on your computer, the online clips may not work correctly.   The Microsoft website needs to install a feature called ActiveX on your computer for the online clips to work properly.  It is a brief download that happens in the background, but if you do not have installation rights, then the software will not install and the online clips website will not work correctly.  Each time you go onto Microsoft’s website, it will try to re-install the software again, but you will get locked into a loop of frustration where you cannot right click the mouse to “copy” sounds and pictures.  The only hope is to find your network administrator and have them install this software feature for you.
